Church

Church of Agios Dimitrios Vasilikon

The area with the small church of Agios Dimitrios (late 16th century), built by a landowner of the area, is included in the wider area of Vasiliki. In the masonry of the temple, Pallas had identified an abundance of early Christian material from the surrounding area, which he detached and transferred for safekeeping to the then Archaeological Collection of Salamis. Until the beginning of the 1990s there was a metronomic relief built into the outer side of the Holy Step of the church, which was removed and transferred to the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus. A copy of it is exhibited today in the Archaeological Museum of Salamis. An important monument of traditional architecture of recent times is the impressive well within the Nezis family's farms. In the depth of its bottom there are four large stone-built semicircular arcades that meet in the center of the well and which aim to expand the surface of the water horizon to be irrigated. This point of interest is plain and urban. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Visitable hours: Open.
